Can we Swim in it?  Drink from it?  Fish on it?

These are the questions the North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper asks for all waters of the North Saskatchewan Watershed.

Our vision:

A North Saskatchewan Watershed where we all have the ability to safely and enjoyably swim, drink and fish.

The North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper (NSRK) Program is a local waterbody preservation group based in Edmonton.  We are dedicated to being the voice of the North Saskatchewan River watershed and community from the Rocky Mountain headwaters to the forks; near Prince Albert where the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers meet.

The NSRK is a registered charity in Canada (BN: 81873 8064 RR0001) and a licenced member of the  Waterkeeper Alliance.

Waterkeeper Alliance is an international organization of over 190 grassroots waterbody protection programs headquartered in New York State.  The President of the International Waterkeeper Alliance is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. There are currently 9 Waterkeeper programs in Canada.

The NSRK is a member of the Alberta Environmental Network Water Caucus, a group of environmental NGOs and stakeholders seeking collaborative input and recommendations for water issues in Alberta.

The mission of the NSRK Program is to restore, preserve, and protect the water quality and biodiversity of our watershed through actions that inform, connect, and protect the NSR watershed:

  1. Providing information, issues awareness and education about the watershed for all citizens  to safely and enjoyably connect with the waters of the NSR watershed.
  2. Hands-on marine presence for watershed pollution monitoring, action, and follow up on citizen complaints.
  3. Advocating for proper monitoring, compliance, enforcement and oversight with respect to our environmental laws and regulations.
  4. Ongoing support and implementation of water quality research and specific remediation   projects in the watershed.
  5. Continually striving for sustainable watershed management legislation and practices by providing scientific, purposeful and   objective  input into all consultations with stakeholders and regulators.
  6. Providing leadership for a collaborative and communicative approach with other stakeholders with respect to watershed education, projects and policy consultations to maximize consensus building, expertise and resources and minimize redundancy and duplication.
